Here you see the first stages of the ladder's construction. Apparent is the texture of the concrete, formed specifically to mimic natural stone. When fully complete, the ladder will be hand painted and each "stone" will be individually painted with a variety of hues that match the natural stone of the village. Why not build the ladder out of natural stone? Because the State's historic guidance stated that the new structure must be true to its period of construction while blending with the aesthetics of the village. This concrete formliner method is the most cost effective way to strike that balance.
