Fish passage and channeling flows isn't just about modifying a river's channel. These historically important man-made water courses must be permanently closed to the flow of the river to ensure fish do not become trapped in them. Here we have stacked boulders in front of the old sluice gate and later fill and soil will be added so the closure will look like a natural earthen berm. For historical reasons none of the man made structures like the gate will be removed or even altered.
